The creation of my art is truly a reflection of my mood and environment. I am a self-taught artist who likes to figure things out for myself. My joy is in experimenting and learning new techniques. Sometimes I am just trying to replicate a thought or image that is in my mind. When I start a new project, I can immerse myself into a painting losing all track of time and my worries.
Although I have worked in several art forms, I currently work with fluid epoxy resin painting. The uncured resin is thick like honey and when cured provides a shiny glass like finish to the artwork. Because of resins chemical composition, I only have a short amount of working time once the resin is thoroughly mixed. I must precisely portion out the amount for each color I need which can be very difficult at times. There is a delicate balance between the colorant and resin portions, the wrong proportions could lead to a tragic end result. Once the colors are applied to the canvas board, I manipulate the resin mixture into an appealing composition. I allow it to harden for 12 to 24 hours (depending on the temperature and humidity). Then I can add another layer to create more depth and visual interest. This medium can take several layers to achieve the right balance for each individual piece. Many times, my first layer is barely visible when I am finished with the piece, but the journey to the end is the most satisfying part.
I find that when I am just playing without structure or plan is when I have the most fun creating. Color and pattern combinations are pulled from me until the design is satisfying to my minds eye and my soul. Yes, sometimes I even do a happy dance when I see the finished piece of art. To create has always been a part of my nature and serves as my therapy for whatever pressures have been pestering me. I hope when you see it, you will feel a bit of my emotional release while I was creating it.
